WealthMgr Docs

Accounts are the foundation of WealthMgr. Every transaction, goal, and automation is linked to an account. You can create any number of accounts across four types: asset, liability, income, and expense.

Account types

TypeWhat it representsExamples
AssetMoney you ownBank account, savings, brokerage, crypto
LiabilityMoney you oweCredit card, mortgage, personal loan
IncomeWhere money comes fromSalary, freelance income
ExpenseWhere money goesBills, groceries, subscriptions

Each account type has built-in subtypes (e.g. checking, savings, credit card, mortgage). You can also create custom subtypes in Preferences → Account subtypes.

Loan accounts

Accounts with a loan subtype track a principal balance that decreases as you record payments. WealthMgr models the loan balance — it does not automatically schedule payments unless you add an automation rule.

Broker accounts

Brokerage accounts support pockets with an instrument symbol (ticker). You can record Buy and Sell transactions on those pockets to track investment positions and see a yearly return figure.

Adding an account

  1. Go to Accounts in the sidebar.
  2. Click Add account in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose the account type and subtype.
  4. Enter a name, currency, and opening balance.
  5. Click Save.

Warning

Once you record transactions on an account, the opening balance is locked. You cannot change it through the edit form — use a reconciliation snapshot instead.

Pockets

Each asset account can have multiple pockets. A pocket is a named envelope inside the account that holds an allocated portion of the account balance.

Pocket types:

  • Regular pocket — a named allocation (e.g. “Bills budget”, “Groceries”).
  • Goal pocket — a pocket with a target amount. Shown in Goals and on the Dashboard.
  • Investment pocket — a pocket with an instrument symbol for tracking a position.

Adding a pocket

Open the account card, click the pocket area, then click Add pocket. Choose a type, name, and optionally a target amount and whether to allow surpassing the target.

Starring accounts and pockets

Click the star icon on any account or pocket to pin it to the Dashboard.

Reordering accounts

Drag the grip handle on the left side of any account card to reorder it. The order is saved locally.

Reconciling an account

Reconciliation sets a snapshot balance that overrides the calculated balance for a specific date. Use it when your recorded transactions diverge from your actual bank balance.

  1. Open the account menu (⋮) and choose Reconcile.
  2. Enter the actual balance shown in your bank statement.
  3. Confirm — WealthMgr creates a reconciliation transaction to make the calculated balance match.

Warning

Reconciliation creates a transaction in the database. It cannot be undone through the UI — you would need to manually delete the reconciliation transaction from the Transactions page.

Archiving and deleting accounts

  • Archive — hides the account from the default view. Use for accounts you no longer use but want to keep for historical reporting. Archived accounts appear when you toggle Show archived.
  • Delete — permanently removes the account and all its transactions. This cannot be undone.

Filtering accounts

Use the type filter buttons at the top of the Accounts page to show only assets, liabilities, income accounts, or expense accounts.

Viewing transactions for an account

Click View activity on any account to open the Transactions page pre-filtered to that account. The same link is available on individual pockets.

Tip

Credit card accounts support an autopayment setting. Enable it and choose the source asset account — WealthMgr will automatically create a transfer rule to pay the card balance on the closing day.
